Questa e' una ricchissima libreria di tre piani con un passato elegante, infatti nasce come teatro, poi convertito a cinema ed ora riciclato a negozio di libri con tanto di bar. La chicca e' sul palco dove hanno allestito un bar e – con mia grande sorpresa, si possono tranquillamente leggere i libri presi dai ripiani del negozio. Questi sono ovviamente posizionati in platea e in galleria; per rendere l'ambiente ancora piu accogliente hanno piazzato (o forse mai rimosso) le poltrone dalle balconate, dove, anche li, si puo' leggere in tutta tranquillita'. Da una lista stilata dal The Guardian nel 2008 El Ateneo risulta al secondo posto tra le librerie piu' belle al mondo. Ci credo e anzi sono curiosa di vedere le altre ora!
Casa de la Opera
Di teatri e associazioni culturali ce ne sono a bizzeffe qui, la Casa de la Opera e' una di queste ma un po' piu' speciale. E' un'associazione senza fini di lucro, nata da un'idea di Adelaida Negri, nota soprano argentina, la quale ha deciso di investire tempo, denaro ed energie nell'aiutare giovani interpreti ad esibirsi e nel far conoscere l'opera, con particolare attenzione al 'bel canto' italiano. 
Fisicamente stiamo parlando di una vera e propria casa (appunto) adibita a scuola di canto e centro culturale d'incontro dal 1997. Noi siamo andati ad un concerto, invitati dalla nostra amica Marta (cantante lirica soprano) che prende lezioni dallo splendido maestro Bernardo Toscano. Ecco il maestro! Ci vorrebbero ore per presentarlo, possiamo solamente dire che dai suoi 94 anni di esperienza come uomo d'affari e maestro di canto ha un mondo da raccontare -letteralmente visto che lo ha girato con la moglie Adelaida. Noi ci sentiamo fortunati ad averli conosciuti entrambi, e averci potuto mischiare con gli altri spettatori presenti a concerto. Non vengo nemmeno a dire che tutti, ma proprio tutti, erano espertissimi di opera e operetta: chi l'ha fatta, chi l'ha prodotta, chi la insegnava, chi la studia ecc.
Pman si e' aiutato scaricando sul cellulare i testi delle opere e coadiuvato dalle spiegazioni di Marta pare abbia apprezzato il concerto, che era 'Gala de Opera di Donizetti e Verdi'.
Noche de los museos
Notte di musei aperti e gratuiti con corollario di iniziative piu o meno culturali.
Da bravi bambini abbiamo studiato un percorso ideale con tanto di cartina degli spostamenti calcolati con gli autobus (due spicopatici!).
Prima tappa centro Educativo del Tango de Buenos Aires, Universidad del Tango per ascoltare una conferenza sulla storia del tango (approfondimento sulla carriera di Aníbal Troilo, conosciuto come Pichuco).
Seconda tappa Museo Casa Carlos Gardel -saltata in pieno, preferendo una pizza.
Terza tappa al Museo Borges, che era meglio non fare. Non per il museo ma perche' abbiamo assistito ad un qualcosa di fastidioso che ha mischiato video istallazioni, musica elettronica e musica classica (credo). Na schifezza corollata da morsi di zanze avvelenate.
Quarta ed ultima tappa il Planetario de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Galileo Galilei. Bello, da fuori. La fila era cosi lunga che dopo 1 ora e mezza di attesa abbiamo deciso di desistere, anche perche' stava chiudendo a quasi le 3 di mattina. Ci torneremo!
Cine Gaumont
Un cinema in centro citta', proprio davanti al congresso, che vive di fondi statali o meglio dei sussidi dall'istituzione nazionale del cinema e delle arti audiovisive (INCAA). A noi e' piaciuto per una serie di motivi: il biglietto costa solo 8 Pesos (niente!), ci sono in programmazione solo film di produzione argentina (ottima promozione della cultura nazionale) e ci sono i sottotitoli (per legge per aggevolare le persone con problemi uditivi e noi, parlatori claudicanti di spagnolo). Abbiamo visto Relatos Selvajes, una commedia ad episodi dove c'era lui, il mio attore argentino preferito Ricardo Darin in Bombita.
Just few little things found here, beloging to the cultural domain: El Ateneo
This is a very rich book shop of three levels with an elegant past. This was born in fact as theatre, then changed into a cinema and now recycled as book shop with internal coffee shop. The beauty is on the stage, where they built a bar (in the Italian meaning of this!) and – with my great surprise, the books can be brought there taken from the bookshelves. These are placed in the stall and in the galleries; to make the atmosphere a bit more welcoming, they put (or never removed) the chairs from the balconies, which became other quiet reading areas as well. From a list done by The Guardian in 2008, El Ateneo is the second of the world's 10 best bookshops. I believe that and I am curious to see the others now!
Casa de la Opera
There are many theatres and cultural associations here, and the Casa de la Opera is one of them but a bit special. This is a not-for-profit organisation, born by an idea of Adelaida Negri, famous Argentinean soprano singer. She has decided to invest time, money and energy in helping young artists to perform and in promoting the opera, with a special attention for the 'bel canto italiano'. Physically we are talking about a real house (casa), re-organised to be a singing school and cultural meeting point since 1997. 
We went to a concert invited by our friend Marta (liric opera singer) who takes lessons from the maestro Bernardo Toscano. We should spend hours presenting him, we can only say that from his 94 years of experience as business man and singing teacher he has a world of stories to tell – I mean literally as he travelled around a lot with his wife Adelaida. We feel lucky for having met both, and for having mingled with other spectators. I don't want to even say that all, but seriously all, were experts of opera and operetta: who took part of it, who preduced it, who used to teach it, who is studying it, etc.
Pman downloaded the lyrics on him mobile and with Marta support and explanations, it seemed that he fancied the concert, which was 'Gala de Opera di Donizetti e Verdi'.
Noche de los Museos
Night of free and open museums with a corollary of -more of less- cultural initiatives.
As two good kids, we studied an ideal journey with a map, synchronising the visits with public transports' schedule (two psychopaths!)
First stop University of Tango of Buenos Aires to listen a conference on tango history (focused on Anibal Troilo, aka Pichuco).
Second stop Casa Carlos Gardel Museum – totally skipped as we preferred a pizza instead.
Third stop Borges Museum, and it'd has been better not going. Not for the museum, but because we assisted to something really annoying and confusing that mixed video installations, electronic and classic music (perhaps!). A filth, crowed by nasty mozzies' bites.
Forth and last stop was the Planetarium Galileo Galilei. Beautiful, from outside! The queue was so long that after waiting 1 and half hours we decided to give up, also because it was closing at almost 3am. We will be back.
Cine Gaumont
A cine placed in the city centre, right next to the Congress; this lives off public fundings or, better to say, grants from national istitution of cinema and audiovisual arts (INCAA). We liked it for few reasons: the ticket costs only 8 pesos (nothing!), only Argentinean movies are presented (great promotion of national culture), and there are subtitles (by law to facilitate audio impared persons and us, hobbling Spanish speakers. We watched Relatos Selvajes, a commedy with episodes where there is him, my favourite Argentinean actor, Ricardo Darin in Bombita.
