Siamo nella regione del Chubut, nella Patagonia.
Siamo precisamente a meta' tra Punta Tombo, riserva protetta con una delle piu grandi colonie di pinguini al mondo, e la Penisola Valdes, patrimonio dell'umanita' dell'UNESCO.
Ci siamo riempiti gli occhi tra leoni marini, elefanti marini, pinguini e balene. Tutti animali impressionanti, curiosi e un po' puzzoni, ma decisamente affascinanti.
Ci avanzava un pomeriggio e abbiamo deciso di prendere le bici e andare verso sud di Puerto Madryn per vedere una colonia di leoni marini e i loro harem. Pensavamo di fare una lunga passeggiata sulla costa con la brezza marina e il sole per vedere questi animaloni, ma ci siamo trovati a pedalare su di una strada sterrata e polverosa, lontana dall'acqua, lunga 18 km. Quindi in totale 36km per il leone marino e le sue leonesse. Devo dire che a parte il caldo e la scottatura, il mal di gambe e sedere (come fanno i ciclisti a stare su quei sellini?), la gran fatica... ci siamo fatti tante risate – soprattutto quando abbiamo riportato le bici al noleggio!
In questi tre giorni abbiamo alloggiato a ' La casa de Tounens' un ostello franco-argentino che ci ha accolti e coccolati. Siamo stati fortunati nel trovare un bel gruppo di persone con cui abbiamo sbanchettato tre sere su tre, tra asado e stufato di carne e patate. Il bello degli ostelli e' la condivisione totale che si ha con gli altri, decisamente un concetto hyppie che funziona se si trovano le persone giuste. Noi abbiamo fatto incetta di informazioni per le tappe future e indirizzi email con tanto di inviti a cena in giro per il mondo. 🙂
Puerto Madryn
We are in the Chubut, in Patagonia.
We are precisely in between Punta Tombo, a protected reserve with one of the biggest penguin colonies in the world, and Peninsula Valdes, UNESCO world heritage.
We filled up our eyes with sea lions, sea elephants, penguins and whales. All the animals were impressive, curious and a bit stinky, but definitely fascinating.
We had a spare afternoon, so we decided to rent bikes to visit the south of Puerto Madryn and see a colony of sea lions and their harem. The idea was to go for a long ride on the coast with the marine breeze and the sun to see these big animals; however, we ended up pedalling on a dirty and dusty road, far away from the water, a long 18 kms. This makes 36 kms in total to see the sea lion and his lionesses. I have to say that apart from the hot temperature and the sunburn, the pain in our legs and bum (how can all cyclists stay on those seats?), the great strain... we laughed a lot – especially when we returned the bikes to the rental place!
In those three days we stayed at 'La casa de Tounens', a french-argentinean hostel, which welcomed us and treated us really well. We were lucky to find a nice bunch of people, with whom we feasted for three nights out of three, between asado and cottage pie. That is the beauty of the hostels, sharing is total; I know this is quite a hippie concept that works with the right people. We were engrossed by their info for our next trips and email addresses, and received invites for dinner around the world. 🙂
