Con questo post vogliamo raccontare come si festeggia il Natale in Argentina. Prima di tutto la notte della vigilia e' chiamata 'noche buena', durante la quale ci si riunisce con le persone amate per condividere la cena, come in Italia o Australia. Non si usa mangiare necessariamente il pesce, ma si aspetta la mezzanotte che arriva in un baleno visto che si inizia a mangiare dopo le 22 🙂
Alle 12 in punto ci si fa gli auguri, tra baci, abbracci e fuochi d'artificio - ma giusto quanche schioppo perche' non e' Capodanno (chissa' cosa fanno il 31?!).
Noi ci siamo affrettati a tornare dalla Patagonia per passare il Natale a Buenos Aires con i nuovi amici incontrati qui. Per la vigilia abbiamo ricevuto un graditissimo invito a cena da Ruben, conosciuto tramite Giovanni e Marta.
Da Ruben abbiamo ricevuto oltre ad una cena superlativa in un ambiente accogliente e di classe, anche tante ma tante informazioni e aneddoti storici, architettonici e socio-culturali sulla citta'.
Io e Pietro abbiamo molto apprezzato la visita informale e spontanea al teatro Colon, quando siamo andati a prendere i biglietti per un concerto.
Ruben e' una fonte di sapere che ricorda tutto (beato lui!), compresi particolari saporiti e divertenti su balletto, opera e politica.
Ad essere sinceri non abbiamo sentito l'aria natalizia fino a quando non siamo entrati in casa sua, dove abbiamo trovato un elegante albero di natale e un mare di piccoli regali. 🙂
Da bravo maestro di cerimonie ha imbandito la tavola in maniera impeccabile con tanto di segna-posti e candele; una cornice perfetta arricchita da buona musica; e naturalmente cibo squisito.
Il giorno di Natale abbiamo replicato ma in formato 'famiglia' a casa di Liliana, altro tesoro trovato qui (chi trova un amico trova un ...). Abbiamo goduto dell'ospitalita' di Lili diverse volte tra te' pomeridiani tramutati in cena, pomeriggi di chiacchiere argentine su opera e vita in generale. La tia (zia) Lili e' stata una risorsa per tante cose, ma quello che piu abbiamo apprezzato e' la sua generosita', simpatia e ovviamente passione per l'opera... quasi dimenticavo le sue torte e le empanadas (la torta dulche de leche e cocco e' praticamente una poesia).
E' buffo pensare che da un'altra parte di mondo abbiamo trovato delle persone cosi familiari, per qualche motivo abbiamo la sensazione di conoscerle da sempre, come Dario: membro di questo gruppetto che tra le sue battute geniali, lezioni di parolacce (haha) ed eleganza abbiamo scoperto abbia lavoraro 14 anni per Quantas (aereolinea australiana).
Tutto il gruppo e' accomunato dalla passione per la musica (lirica e classica): chi per lavoro, chi per passione, chi per hobby hanno tutti un bagaglio culturale lirico e classico che mette paura (soprattutto a due ignoranti come noi!).
Giovanni e Marta, Ruben, Dario, Lili sono dei 'tesori' trovati qui, che gia sappiamo incontreremo ancora da qualche parte del mondo. Grazie di tutto.
Durante il soggiorno porteno abbiamo soggiornato prevalentemente in un appartamento a Recoleta, un quartiere residenziale nella zona nord della citta'.Siamo stati ospiti di Manuel e Lucia due osti ideali - li trovate su AirBnB ;). Siamo tornati per ben tre volte da oro durante i nostri viaggi: tranquilli, super disponibili, socievoli, praticamente perfetti per il nostro soggiorno a Buenos Aires. Abbiamo avuto anche un ospite speciale, Sur, la gatta di Lucia che aveva una passione speciale per Pietro 🙂 Il soggiorno porteno e' andato cosi bene anche grazie a loro. Grazie ragazzi!
Christmas and Friends
With this post we would like to tell how Christmas (Navidad) is celebrated here in Argentina. First of all Xmas eve is called 'Noche Buena' (good night), in which people gets together with their loved ones to have dinner, pretty much as it is done in Italy or Australia. It is not habit to eat necessarily seafood, but they wait for mid night when they wish Merry Christmas between hugs, kisses and fireworks – but only few cracks as it is not New Year eve (who knows what they do on the 31?!)
We hurried up to come back from Patagonia to spend Christmas in Buenos Aires with the new friends met here. For Xmas eve we received an appreciated invite for dinner from Ruben, met through Giovanni and Marta.
At Ruben's, we found on top of a superlative dinner in a classy and welcoming atmosphere, also heaps of info and anecdotes about history, architecture, society and culture of this city.
Pietro and I appreciated a lot the informal and spontaneous visit at the Colon theater, when we went to buy some tickets.
Ruben is a knowledge source that remembers all (lucky him!), including tasty and funny little episodes on ballet, opera and politics.
To be honest, we haven't felt Xmas that much this year, but as soon as we stepped into Ruben's place .. there is was! We found an elegant tree and a mountain of little presents. 🙂
He seated the table just impeccably as a great master of ceremonies he is, including placeholders and candles; providing obviously delicious food in a frame of good music.
Christmas day we replied but in a big 'family' version at Lili's place, other treasure we found here (a friend is a treasure..).
We enjoyed the hospitality of Lili few times between afternoon tea, that became dinner, and avo conversations on opera and life in general. Tia (aunty) Lili has been a resource for us, but what we appreciated the most is her generosity, simpatia and clearly passion for opera... oops I almost forgot her cakes and empanadas (dulche de leche and coco cake is practically a poem!)
It is funny to think that on another side of the world we found people so familiar to us: we felt that we knew them since ever, like Dario. He is part of this little bunch, witty with his genial jokes and elegant; he gave some important and necessary lessons on swearwords. At the end we found out he worked for 14 years at Qantas (Australian Airline).Small world eh?
They all have in common the passion for music, both lyrical and classic: who for work, the other for passion or hobby, all of them have a scary musical background (especially for two ignorants like us!).
Giovanni, Marta, Ruben, Dario and Lili are treasures we found here and we know already we'll meet again somewhere in this small world. Thank you very much for all guys!
While in Baires, we stayed mainly in Recoleta, a residential area North of the city centre, in an apartment found through AirB&B. We went back to this place three times while we were traveling around Argentina. The two hosts are Manuel and Lucia, who have been perfect for our needs here in Baires: always helpful, super chilled out, friendly and available for everything we asked, pretty much perfect during our staying. We had for some time a special guest, Sur, Lucia's cat; she had a special passion for Pietro 🙂 Our staying went so well also thank to them. Gracias chicos!
