Appena entrati in Colombia la prima tappa e' stata Popayan, dove siamo arrivati alle 3.30 di mattina con un autobus da Ipsales. Una volta qui abbiamo deciso di continuare verso San Augustin prendendo un minibus, che ci ha frullati per 4 ore fino alla meta.
Durante la via la polizia ci ha fermati per un controllo, veniamo cosi a sapere sulla guerriglia attuale della FARC, che ancora dopo anni lotta da queste parti.
Perche' San Augustin?
Perché e' la più grande necropoli al mondo; il parco archeologico e' stato creato nel 1937 per studiare, preservare e promuovere la conoscenza delle statue trovate in questa zona. Della statue non si sa molto: l'avvicendarsi di tre culture non ha reso facile la ricostruzione delle loro origini e dei motivi della loro creazione. Le statue sono disposte nel parco e in diversi siti archeologici nei dintorni e rappresentano uomini, animali e figure antropomorfe (sia uomini che animali)... rimane sempre il dubbio sul perché. Anche I siti archeologici sono confusi, nel senso che accampamenti cerimoniali sono stati trovati sotto delle rovine di villaggi.
Il parco e' un gioiello! Si parte dal museo casa dell'archeologo Luis Duque Gomez dove hanno ricostruito tutto quello che ipotizzano e non sanno 🙂 sulle statue. All'entrata come biglietto d'ingresso ci hanno dato un passaporto con dentro le mappe dei siti e delle brevi spiegazioni dei luoghi e delle statue. All'entrata delle aree ci hanno applicato un timbro a forma di statua, decisamente un'idea originale.
Colombia – Popayan y San Augustin
As soon as we entered in Colombia, the first stop was Popayan, where we arrived by bus at 3:30 in the morning from Ipsales. Once here we decided to go to San Augustin taking a minibus, which have shaken us for 4 hours till the village.
During the way, the police stopped us for a check, so we came to know about the current FARC guerrillas, who is still active and fighting after years.
Why San Augustin?
Because this is the largest necropolis in the world; the archaeological park was created in 1937 to study, preserve and promote the knowledge of the statues found in this area. The statues are still a mystery - not much it is known: the succession of three cultures hasn't made easy the reconstruction of their origins and the reasons for their creation. The statues are located in the park and several archaeological sites in the area and represent men, animals and anthropomorphic figures (both humans and animals)... there is still the question of why?. Archaeological sites are also confused: under the ceremonial camps were found the ruins of villages.
The park is a gem! It begins from the house-museum of the archaeologist Luis Duque Gomez, where they rebuilt everything they don't know 🙂 trying to speculate on the statues. As the entrance ticket they gave us a passport with site maps and brief explanations of places and statues. At the entrance of the areas they applied a stamp-shaped statue on this passport. What original idea!
